Academics and Curriculum
A Wondrous Academic Journey from Nursery to Year 6
“At Alleyn Court, our educational philosophy is simple yet profound: an outstanding childhood is the most extraordinary gift we can offer a child.
We’ve designed a rich, inspiring curriculum that builds from the ground up, blending a love of learning with a structured pathway to academic excellence. From their very first day in our Nursery, your child will embark on a journey that nurtures their innate curiosity, builds their courage, and instills a deep sense of compassion, preparing them not just for secondary school, but for a life of success and purpose.
This introduction immediately establishes the school’s ethos and sets the stage for the narrative journey that follows. It addresses the parent’s desire for a well-rounded education by explicitly mentioning the values of curiosity, courage, and compassion, all while promising a clear path to academic success.”

The Alleyn Court Educational Journey

Early Years Foundation Stage (Ages 2.5-5)
Montessori Roots to Traditional Academics
In Nursery, the curriculum is rooted in the Maria Montessori theory. This child-centered approach empowers children to learn independently in a supportive, prepared environment. Class sizes are intentionally small, with a maximum of 12 children in each of the two main classes, Ducklings and Bumblebees, ensuring a high adult-to-child ratio. This one-on-one attention helps each child’s independence, confidence, and curiosity to flourish. Weekly specialist-taught lessons in drama and music begin at this stage, and they also have a specialist teacher for PE, setting the tone for the school's emphasis on a broad and stimulating curriculum from the very start.
As children transition to Reception, the forms the first year in Pre-Prep, their learning transitions from its Montessori roots to a more traditional academic approach. This deliberate, phased approach is a key component of the school’s pedagogy, providing the emotional comfort of play-based learning in the early years while smoothly preparing them for the academic rigor of the Prep school. In Reception, specialist teaching expands to include French, Art, Drama, Music, and P.E., all taught by subject experts. This smooth transition model reassures parents that their child will be prepared for the next stage of their education and will not face a sudden shift in learning style.

The Preparatory School (Ages 7-11): Unlocking Potential
Montessori Roots to Traditional Academics
The final stage of the Alleyn Court journey, from Year 3 to Year 6, is where the curriculum reaches its full expression. The shift to a fully subject-specialist teaching model from Year 5 onward ensures a seamless transition to secondary education. Every lesson is taught by a dedicated expert, providing a depth of knowledge that prepares pupils for the rigors of grammar and senior independent school entrance exams. The curriculum encompasses core subjects such as English, Maths, and Science, along with History, Geography, Religious Education, and PSHE.
The school's extensive co-curricular program offers over 15 different sports and 10 academic or creative hobby clubs, ensuring a truly holistic education. Residential trips for pupils from Year 3 onward build problem-solving skills and resilience , culminating in a Year 6 trip to Boulogne that allows pupils to practice their French language skills in a real-world setting. This is a curriculum that is not confined to the classroom; it is an active and engaging adventure.
Academic Excellence & Beyond

Alleyn Court's academic approach is defined by its ability to achieve outstanding outcomes from a non-selective starting point. This is a core part of its value proposition: it is not about admitting the brightest, but about helping every child reach their full potential.
The school's ethos of Curiosity, Courage, and Compassion is not a marketing slogan; it is woven into the very fabric of the curriculum. Curiosity is nurtured through practical, hands-on science lessons in a fully equipped laboratory and through projects like the popular "Waddle-on-Sea" penguin sculpture that supports a local hospice. Courage is developed through opportunities to perform in productions, speak out in class, and participate in competitive sports. Compassion is fostered through the school’s extensive pastoral care and charitable activities.
