Last week, 8 Alleyn Court pupils travelled to Rugby School, after qualifying for the ISA (Independent Schools Association) National Cross Country Finals. This event brings the best 70 runners from each age group together to compete for the National prize.

In the first race for the day the U9 girls, Alleyn Court had 4 Runners representing the East of England, Niamh Staunton, Bella Knight, Freya Walls and Olivia McDonnell. It was a fast start to the race, led out by Niamh who managed to keep up the pace around the 1600m course and hold off a late push from another young athlete to claim an amazing win and become National Champion. Bella managed an incredible 5th place, Olivia 24th and Freya 41st.

In the U9 Boys Race, Alleyn Court had Hugo Fryatt, Remy MacDonald and Beau Stark representing the East Regional and again didn’t disappoint. They all worked extremely hard, and despite a fall at the start Hugo managed a 10th place finish, with Remy 19th and Beau 56th. Remy and Beau were also competing up with the year above, so more to come from them next year.

In the U11 Boys, Toby Owen was representing AC for the East Region, again up a year group and more than held his own in a tough 2000m race.  He beat a number of very good runners, finishing in a brilliant 40th and gained valuable experience for next year.

‘It was an amazing day of running and I couldn’t of been prouder of all their hard work and commitment to early morning training throughout the year. It’s a clear message than hard work and determination pay off.’ Noel Smith
