ISA National Table Tennis Champions 2018

On Friday 26th January, our Alleyn Court Boy's Table Tennis team travelled to Sherfield School in Hampshire to compete in the ISA National Table Tennis for the first time. The day was split into two, with the morning a singles competition and doubles in the afternoon. All 4 boys started off brilliantly all winning their first 5 games each, against some very good players from all over the country. Jimmy, Norman and George all won their groups of 8 qualifying for the Cup quarter finals and Matthew finished 3rd, making him the number 1 seed in the Trophy.

Jimmy lost a close quarter final, while Norman and George both won tight games to set up an all Alleyn Court semi-final. In that semi final, George narrowly got the better of his team mate and qualified for the National Final. In the Trophy Matthew, cruised his way through the quarter final and semi final and then dominated the the Final to win 2 -0 and claim the Trophy.

The Cup Final, didn't all go George's way and he quickly found himself down a set! However, fought back brilliantly to win a close 2nd set before winning the decider 11-0 to become National Singles Champion.

After a quick rest, the boys were into the double competition and both pairs comfortably made their way through their groups and their quarter finals. In the semi finals Jimmy and Matthew lost 11-9, while Norman and George won theirs to reach the final.

In the 3rd/4th play off Jimmy and Matthew found themselves losing by 1 set and 9-4 and were two points from finishing 4th. However, both players produced some of their best table tennis of the day and fought back to win the set and then win the decider 11-9 to claim the National Bronze Doubles Medal.

In the Doubles Final, Norman and George continued their good form and fed off each others energy and the table tennis they played was a joy to watch and in some points were simply unplayable, winning 2 sets to 0 to win the National ISA Doubles title.
