Hi, Head of History Here! At Alleyn Court History is taught by the class teacher up to Year 4 from when it is then taught by the Head of History.
It begins with personal and family histories, then from Year 2 famous people and Victorian children right through to the Home Front and the Aztecs in Year 6.
Because of the time allocated to this subject, we manage to cover a much wider range of topics. Each topic is well-resourced and the junior school teachers either arrange visits or visitors into the school linked with at least one of their topics during the course of an academic year.
In years 4, 5 and 6 a different historical visit is arranged for each year group usually linked to the Romans (Year 4) the Tudors (Year 5) an the Home Front (Year 6).
We are very fortunate to be within travelling distance of a wide variety of historical venues.
All of the teachers of history are passionate about the subject and the children respond in a very positive way to this.
