At Alleyn Court we aim to develop a shared understanding between all staff of the role of language in pupils’ learning and how work in different subjects can contribute to and benefit from the development of pupils’ ability to communicate.
Programme of Study
The curriculum at Alleyn Court follows the National Curriculum and blends the skills and attainments of the National Literacy Strategy and the New Framework for Literacy. The Montessori Methods used in the Pre-Prep are integrated into the progressive programme provided for Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 pupils.

Reading is regarded very highly at Alleyn Court and pupils are encouraged to be enthusiastic and effective readers. Appropriate reading material is provided for our pupils, which is selected from a graded reading scheme. Pupils also use our extensive library to develop an interest in a wide range of both children’s and famous adult authors. World Book Day is always a popular event at Alleyn Court where books are celebrated with quizzes, dressing up days and even a “Book Baby” day! The school also holds Book Fairs both at the Westcliff and Thorpe Bay sites.
Pupils writing skills can often be seen on display around the school site, in the school magazine or in collaborative stories that are proudly displayed in the school library.
We also provide a number of opportunities for pupils to extend their speaking skills with an annual reading competition, class assemblies and school plays.
