Alleyn Court has a reputation for outstanding achievement and high
levels of participation in sport. We are fortunate to have excellent
facilities (including a sports hall and extensive playing fields) that
allow a large range of sports to be played both during timetabled and
extra curricular time.
We
follow a traditional prep school programme: Physical Education lessons
take place in the mornings and games and fixtures generally taking place
in the afternoons. Each pupil from year 2 – 6 has a double Physical
Education lesson (70 minutes) and two games afternoons (1 hour 20 minutes
each) per week, giving a total of 3 hours 50 minutes curriculum time. In
addition to this there is an extensive programme of fixtures, clubs and
activities, which all pupils are encouraged and welcome to take part in.
There is a wide range of
sporting fixtures arranged throughout the year. We compete against both
independent schools and locally through our active involvement in the Southend Primary Schools Sports Partnership. Our year 6 basketball and
netball teams also compete against the local secondary schools.
However, perhaps the most hotly
contested fixtures are the house competitions, in which every pupil
takes part. Each term house tournaments are staged:
-
In the Autumn Term:
Basketball, Football and Netball
-
In the Spring Term: Tag
Rugby, Cross - country and Hockey
-
In the Summer Term: Cricket, Kwik Cricket, Rounders and Athletics
Both school and house spirit is
high amongst all members of the community at Alleyn Court. This is
enhanced by the cheer-leading team, which attends all home basketball
fixtures. All children are enthusiastic about their sport, which makes a
strong contribution to the happy, active atmosphere at school.
