Introduction

senior.jpg

In Senior School, the emphasis is on personal development and preparation for 11+, whether to senior independent schools or to selective senior schools locally. Children are encouraged to become more independent as learners, with organisation and responsibility also becoming more of a focus alongside their academic development.

Year 4 children are class-based for core subjects, whilst Years 5 and 6 are taught entirely by subject specialists in dedicated teaching rooms.

The breadth of our curriculum includes opportunities for all children to develop a particular talent, whether they are academic or not. Art, Design Technology, Drama, French, Games, IT, Music, PE and PSHE are all timetabled alongside the more regular subjects like English, Maths, Science, History, Geography and RE, whilst Verbal Reasoning is also added in Years 5 and 6 in line with entry requirements for local schools. We are sure that every child can excel at something – given the opportunity and support.

All children in these sections are sensitively cared for by a form tutor who oversees all pastoral issues. Learning support for those who encounter learning difficulties or who are gifted and talented is overseen by the school’s experienced Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator. In this way, we meet children’s individual needs as best we can.
