Pre-Prep Activities

The range of activities in the Pre- Prep provide the children with opportunities and experiences, enabling them to progress through the stepping stones and achieve the early learning goals of the foundation stage and grow to their full potential.

Through our topics, the children broaden their knowledge and become familiar with people in their local environment.  We have welcomed the community policeman, local firemen with their fire engine, a dentist, a nurse, a road safety officer and a potter who worked with the children to make clay tiles.

To give the children first hand experience and extend the learning process, school visits are arranged to Colchester Zoo, Marsh Farm, Tropical Wings and Butterfly Gardens and the Southend Royal Mail Sorting Office. Theatre trips are also arranged annually.

To develop respect for other cultures and to enable the children to reflect upon our diversity, guest speakers talk about their religious celebrations and festivals, incorporating ‘artefacts’ such as food, household items, music, dance and traditional clothing.

In the Autumn Term, the children take part in our Harvest Festival, collecting food for the Westcliff Homeless Centre.

The Pre Prep supports Dr. Barnardos providing Christmas boxes for children in need  and there  are fund raising events for ‘Jeans for Genes Day’, Children in Need and Comic Relief.

At the end of the Autumn Term, the Pre-Prep perform in a Christmas Concert at the Westcliff Site with a variety of themes and costumes. The children thoroughly enjoy performing in front of their parents and the school hall is always full to capacity with very proud families. The term ends with the Christmas Lunch and Party with entertainment and Father Christmas.

The Thorpe Bay Site hosts the outside Summer activities, e.g. Sports' Day, Teddy Bears' Picnic and visits from owls and horses!

Both Pre- Prep sites have outdoor play areas with a range of equipment for the development of physical skills and gardens with opportunities for growing plants and vegetables. This stimulates curiosity, observation and an awareness and understanding of their world.
